Ibis Oso Enters the E-bike Fray

Prestige brand Ibis gets into the eMTB game, with the full-carbon Oso

California mountain bike maker, Ibis, has decided to enter into the e-bike market with a new MTB that’s pretty darn exciting!

The Ibis Oso is a general-purpose trail-riding eMTB. But it’s clearly inspired by Ibis’s non-electric Ripmo bike, which also has a long-travel dual suspension and is built for longer endurance rides. That suspension consists of a 170-mm Fox Float 38 fork in front (which you can upgrade to 190 mm), and a 155-mm Fox Elite X2 shock in the rear (which you can also upgrade to 170 mm).

The mid-mounted 85 Nm Bosch Performance Line CX motor is what gives this e-bike the extra pedal power. That motor is powered by a removable down-tube-integrated 750 Wh Bosch Powertube lithium-ion battery. We don’t have any specific numbers on battery life, but Ibis is upfront about how your battery life will differ depending on the terrain you’re on and which pedal-assist modes you use.

The Small and Medium models use mixed wheels, with a 29-inch wheel in front and a 27.5-inch wheel in the back. But then the Large and X-Large use 29-inchers on both ends. Those wheels are composed of Blackbird Send aluminum rims, Ibis hubs, and Maxxis tires.

Other cool perks include the removable bar-mounted Bosch Kiox 300 display, Lupine brand integrated head- and tail lights, and a Blackbird Carbon handlebar.

It’s a hefty bike, that’s for sure: The Large Oso weighs in at 53 lbs. The price is $10,999, but while you save up your spare change to buy this beauty, you can play around with building your own on the Ibis website.
