The GoHub is a modular, portable public charging station that can put up to 10 EV chargers anywhere, and takes up a single, standard parking space.
The GoHub stores ZipCharge’s Go EV power banks in lockable, weatherproof “lockers” that keep them charged up so they can provide electricity to parked cars. The company emphasizes that its plan is to allow shop keepers and commercial property owners to easily put charging supermarkets, shopping centers, and other destination hubs– without the need to build specialized structures.
It’s kind of like a piece of rollaway luggage. Once you’ve parked at your high dwell-time destination, you get the Go EV power bank out of the locker, roll it over to your EV, and plug it in. You can even check in on the status of your vehicle while you’re shopping using the ZipCharge app.
ZipCharge App in Action
“We intend to establish the world’s first vertically integrated ‘energy point operator’ (EPO) to serve hundreds of millions of people around the world so everyone can access convenient and low-cost energy. The ZipCharge Go and the GoHub enable the storage of clean energy, which can then be distributed for a multitude of uses from charging an EV to powering equipment,” says ZipCharge Co-founder, Jonathan Carrier. ” We predict our portable powerbanks will outsell fixed home chargers by 2030, in the same way mobile phones overtook landlines. That’s because the Go can be used for more than charging EV charging, it’s a portable energy storage device for personal energy management. We have the bold ambition to deploy 100,000 GoHubs globally by 2030 to support EV charging, local grid resiliency and energy democracy.”
Pretty lofty goals, but ZipCharge sees itself as a step in the process of creating a circular battery economy. The GoHubs re-use end-of-life batteries, and add resiliency to local electrical grids by charging the Go chargers at off-peak hours, and combining that timed charging with solar panels mounted on top of the devices.
