Meet the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV (So Far)

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado is fully-electric and available in WT ($39,900) and RST First Edition ($105,000) trims at launch.
As production ramps up, GM has announced more models will become available in the $50,000 to $80,000 range, with a Trail Boss also on the way.
Produced at GM’s Factory ZERO (Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center), the Chevy Silverado EV will be available in the spring of 2023.

Chevrolet’s best-selling Silverado is an iconic nameplate in the world of trucks. Since its model launch in the late ‘90s, the Silverado has differentiated itself from its “fancier” Sierra siblings by being the go-to choice for work trucks under the GMC umbrella. Now, the Silverado has been revamped as its usual workhorse self, but this time, built from the ground up as a fully-electric truck on GMC’s Ultium EV Platform. As is tradition with previous versions of the Silverado, the pick-up will be available in a spartan work truck (WT) and a well-appointed daily doer (RST).

Two trim levels are just the beginning

Produced out of GM’s Factory ZERO at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center, the 2024 electric Silverado will launch in the spring of 2023 with the WT and RST First Edition variants. These two models take up residence on either end of the price spectrum for the Silverado, with the WT starting at an MSRP of $39,900 and the RST First Edition at $105,000. That jump seems a bit crazy, but GM has announced that the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will be available in more trims and configurations along the pricing scale between the WT and RST models to meet capability and pricing needs when production ramps up. A Trail Boss version of the Silverado is also on the way.

While there is a $66,000 difference between the models, the WT and RST do share some capabilities:

WT v.s. RST – what are the model differences?

The entry-level, fleet-oriented Silverado WT is a powerhouse that lives up to its work-truck roots, offering 510 horsepower, 615 ft-lbs of torque, towing up to 8,000 pounds, and a max payload of 1,200 pounds. Chevrolet has already teased a “max tow package” fleet model that will roll out after the initial launch, capable of trailering 20,000 pounds max.

Inside the crew cab (the only body style available on the Silverado EV), the WT’s operator gets a seven-inch gauge display behind the wheel and a center-focused 11-inch infotainment screen. On the outside, the WT features a no-nonsense five-foot, 11-inch bed, unpainted front fascia, and some 18-inch steelies.

The RST First Edition, as you’d expect, takes things up to 11. For the extra cash, you’re treated to all-wheel steering, increased trailering and payload – 10,000 pounds and 1,300 pounds, respectively – and a bump in power to 754 horses and 785 lb-ft of twist. The RST is also equipped with some nice-to-haves, like premium paint finishes, two inches of adaptive air suspension travel, and a Multi-Flex midgate that allows over nine feet of storage between the cab and tailgate. The tailgate, also of GM’s Multi-Flex variety, allows for touchless opening and closing.

Looking through the glass roof, the RST offers more premium interior surfaces and tech. The instrument screen has gained four inches over the WT’s, while the infotainment screen has blown up to 17 inches of display. As you approach the Silverado RST and its standard 24-inch wheels, it will play a welcome animation with its lights when an enabled smartphone or fob comes within range. The truck will even automatically start as soon as you enter your seat.

Now that we’ve been introduced to the ends of the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV spectrum, we’ll have to see what other models are offered as production stretches through the remainder of 2023 into 2024.
