GAC Aion Hyper GT

If electric vehicles are all about efficiency, does that make the most efficient one the best? Maybe! Meet the world’s most aerodynamic EV!

GAC Aion revealed the Hyper GT at the 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show, last month, opening pre-orders for this all-electric midsized coupe. The new EV is based on the Aion AEP 3.0 platform and boasts the lowest resistance coefficient of any production car at a staggering 0.19 Cd. (The prior record had been held by the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan with a 0.20 Cd drag coefficient.)

The Hyper GT’s design places a strong emphasis on aerodynamics, as seen in its exterior and fully enclosed front fascia with its Wind Blade Grille that automatically opens at high speeds to reduce drag. At 80 km/h (just under 50 mph), the car’s Wind Spoiler rises to guide airflow and create downforce for improved handling and steering in corners.

As for safety, the Hyper GT is equipped with Fengyun III satellite infrared technology for identifying pedestrians in poor weather conditions like haze or sand. It also comes equipped with unique electrode headlights as opposed to traditional penetrating headlights.

The exterior is, of course, beautiful — it was allegedly inspired by liquid metal. It has hidden door handles to keep its lines looking pristine, while the doors open butterfly-style. It also has 19-inch six-spoke turbo wheels and a huge panoramic roof.

The single-motor version of the Hyper GT has a max power output of 250 kW and a peak torque of 434 Nm — and it’s fairly quick, being able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.

GAC Aion plans to release at least two new models annually, so we’re excited to see what’s next for the coming year.
