- The Kia EV9 was the top-selling EV in January 2024.
- Kia announced new partnerships and had a recent Super Bowl advertisement.
- The outstanding January 2024 sales figures followed the brand’s record-setting sales from 2023.
After a record-setting 2023, the Kia lineup continues to impress drivers as the automaker reports strong January EV sales, thanks to the all-new Kia EV9 and the rest of the brand’s SUV options.

Kia EV Sales Numbers Bolstered by the EV9
According to Kia, the automaker delivered 51,090 vehicles in January. In January 2023, Kia sold 51,983. Kia SUVs, including the all-new EV9, accounted for 74% of the sales figures. Sales numbers for the Kia EV9 were 1,408 after the spacious and innovative SUV debuted at dealerships in December.
The Kia EV9 is the first three-row all-electric SUV from an established automaker, and expectations are high. The high-tech EV is the third electric vehicle from Kia and the second electrified Kia in five years to be awarded the prestigious North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The Kia Telluride won the award in 2020, and the Kia EV6 won in 2023. Clearly, Kia engineers are onto something good.
Top Sellers From Kia
Along with the Kia EV SUV, other top sellers in January included the Kia EV6, Carnival, Sportage, and Forte. Sales of the sporty and zippy Kia EV6 were up about 10% from last January, and it comes as no surprise as Kia has offered outstanding financing rates and incentives for qualified buyers.
The Kia Forte and Kia Sportage sit at the top of the January sales numbers with 18,974 deliveries from more than 775 dealerships around the country. Both affordable, safe, and fuel-efficient models saw sales increases from 2023. Kia did not differentiate between the sales of gas-powered and electrified Sportage deliveries.

Eric Watson, Vice President of Sales Operations, Kia America said, “With our flagship EV9 three-row EV SUV off to an impressive start after being named 2024 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year, and Kia’s rugged and capable SUVs continuing to gain market share, Kia will charge ahead in 2024 with six new and significantly redesigned vehicles scheduled to arrive in showrooms.”
Unfortunately, the Kia Niro EV and Niro PHEV numbers did not see similar growth, as the overall Niro numbers were down compared to 2023 Kia EV sales figures. It’s surprising to see lower numbers, because the 2024 Kia Niro EV range is high — around 253 miles — and it’s the most affordable of the new Kia EV lineup. Drivers who want to save even more money can turn to a used Kia Niro EV or a Kia Soul EV, as the automaker discontinued the electrified version of the popular electrified Soul in 2023.
Marketing Announcements From Kia
Over the years, Kia has turned to memorable advertisements and marketing strategies to attract drivers to its vehicles. For over 16 years, Kia has partnered with the NBA, and it recently expanded the partnership to include the WNBA and G League.
The automaker announced several more partnerships. Kia became the official sponsor of the League of Legends League Championships E-Sport series, and it agreed to collaborate with Uber to develop Platform Beyond Vehicles for ride-hailing convenience at the 2024 Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Kia has also debuted a new EV9 advertisement at the Super Bowl, drawing more attention to the lineup of Kia EV cars and SUVs.
