Adventurer Rainer Zietlow set an EV record by driving a Volkswagen ID.4 over 7,000 km with a minimal amount of charging stops. On August 16, Zietlow and the team at Volkswagen Canada Headquarters celebrated the Guinness World Record for crossing Canada with the fewest charges.
Along with his cameraman Elric Popp, Zietlow left St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador on July 25, 2023. His journey of 7,133 kilometers (4432 miles) ended on August 1, 2023, in Victoria, British Columbia. He and Popp stopped 18 times to charge the ID.4. The pair averaged 81 KPH (50 MPH). Zietlow averaged 396.2 kilometers per charge.
Zietlow has already embarked on another journey. This time, he’s traveling across Canada to stop at all 145 Volkswagen dealerships with the ID.4 to celebrate the Guinness World Record.
He and the VW team are using this unique experience to showcase the range and ease of charging in the innovative ID.4. It also allows the team to share the upcoming ID.Buzz and ID.7 sedan, which will arrive on dealership lots in 2024. Zietlow will spend most of August 1 through 28 showing off the iconic ID.4.
