  • The 2024 Hyundai Sonata will feature the new Seamless Horizon Lamp – a horizontal LED light that crosses the front fascia.
  • The new Sonata has exterior styling that resembles the Hyundai IONIQ 6.
  • Hyundai will offer the 2024 Sonata with a hybrid-electric powertrain.
  • The 2024 Sonata is the first model year that has available all-wheel drive.
  • The 2024 Hyundai Sonata release date will be in late 2023.

Hyundai created a buzz when it launched the new 2024 Sonata. The midsize sedan will continue to feature the popular mild-hybrid powertrain, but the new exterior design will remind Hyundai fans of the new IONIQ 6 and the Kia K5.

As other automakers are turning to large SUVs, Hyundai recognizes that many drivers are still interested in sedans. Thanks to frequent Sonata redesigns and refreshes, Hyundai has made the midsize sedan continually relevant. Offering the Sonata in several powertrains and in all-wheel drive will only increase its popularity.

Head-Turning Design

The first thing shoppers will notice is the full-width LED light strip – called the “Seamless Horizon Lamp,” and it appears to be the newest branding feature across the 2024 Hyundai lineup (see the 2024 Hyundai Kona). The rear end also features a horizontal light strip with a lower fascia adding an aggressive, sporty look not yet seen in a Sonata model.

The standard trim and the N-Line models will have new color choices like Carbon Blue Pearl, Transmission Blue Pearl, Onyx Black Pearl Ultimate Red Metallic, and Cream Beige.

The N-Line will feature a rear spoiler, dual exhaust, and an exclusive Aero Matte Silver color option. The automaker will also offer the 2024 Sonata with fresh new wheel options.

On all trims, the C pillar has a sophisticated curve that brings to mind the similar arc on the rear of the IONIQ 6  – which fits well with the automaker’s theme of “Sensuous Sportiness.”

Powertrain Options

For the first time, Hyundai will offer the Sonata with all-wheel drive. The Hyundai TRACtion (HTRAC) AWD system will only be available with a 2.5-liter engine. This system is front-wheel-drive based and includes a Snow drive mode for confidence in slippery weather conditions.

While Hyundai manufactures a handful of fully electric vehicles, the automaker has not yet turned the Sonata into an EV. It is available with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four in the standard models, a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four in the N Line, and a mild hybrid.

The mild-hybrid (HEV) model will feature paddle shifters and regenerative braking to add even more MPG to the fuel efficiency rating. The aerodynamic design of the 2024 Sonata will also increase fuel efficiency.

Interior Styling

The sporty exterior is enhanced by a state-of-the-art interior. The high-tech details include a futuristic floating theme that includes ambient lighting, two-tone trim, and a 12.3-inch panoramic driver display and matching infotainment screen.

Color options in the Sonata include black, dark gray, greige two-tone, dark gray, and camel two-tone. The N-Line will feature red stitching atop dark gray upholstery. Leather upholstery is available on the top trims.

Immersive Digital Driving Experience

The 12.3-inch driver display has an optional head-up display with a 12-inch projection on the windshield that lets drivers keep their eyes on the road. The 12.3-inch infotainment system has an audio-video navigation system that plays through the 12-speaker Bose Premium Sound System with CenterPoint 360 technology.

Hyundai also includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in all 2024 Sonata models. The automaker also makes ownership convenient by including continuous Over-the-Air software updates, so drivers won’t have to visit the dealership every time the vehicle needs a computer update.

Another innovative convenience feature integrates the Sonata with smartphones and smartwatches. Drivers can use the Digital Key 2 to unlock, lock, and start their vehicle through their digital devices.

Comfortable and Safe Driver-Assistive Features

Hyundai has set the trend with standard safety and driver-assistive features.

The 2024 Sonata will come with Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Safe Exit Warning, and Safe Exit Assist. Optional features in top trims include Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control and Highway Drive Assist for semi-autonomous driving on major highways.

Drivers can also add Remote Smart Parking Assist which allows drivers to use their smart key to park the Sonata remotely – while standing outside of the car. This is a handy feature when you need to park in a tight spot and don’t have room to open the doors.
