Europe continues to expand its variety of electric mobility options, oftentimes blurring the lines between e-bikes and electric motorcycles. One such vehicle is the Colibri M22, a lightweight electric motorbike designed specifically for urban folk who need to change things up.
The Colibri M22 was developed by Petre Georgescu – who also founded Hummingbird, known for its lightweight e-bikes. This moto is a rugged, lightweight electric bike that combines elements of a mountain bike with an electric motorcycle. However, just like Hummingbird bikes, this bad boy can fold up. The bike’s folding mechanism allows the rear shock to detach from the swingarm, and the swingarm folds outward toward the belly of the bike. Colibri highlights on its website that this means you can take your moto into the elevator with you to help you store it in winter.
Weighing in at 30 kg (66 lbs) without the battery, the M22 is definitely lighter than a lot of other motos out there. It comes with two riding modes: a city mode that makes it street legal in the E.U. with a B license, and an off-road mode meant for private roads only. The bike is powered by a 3 kW hub motor that allows for a maximum speed of 50 km/h (31 mph) in road mode and up to 90 km/h (56 mph) in off-road mode.
The M22 comes with three modular batteries. Those batteries can be used individually or together, depending on whether you want to focus on weight or focus on range. Combining the three batteries can provide a range of up to 200 km (125 miles) on a single charge, and all three can be charged fully in about two hours.
