Mr. Nikola Goes to Washington

The electric truck wars are heating up, and Nikola continues to exceed the market’s conservative expectations for it!

Last week, Nikola Corporation put its zero-emissions Class 8 battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) on display in Washington, DC. The truck showcase was meant to provide visibility to the importance of congressional efforts to support clean energy and climate incentives that would allow the market for zero-emissions technologies and a clean hydrogen economy to grow.

The event featured various speakers who support the expansion of clean energy and transportation. President of Nikola Energy Pablo Koziner shared that Nikola plans to build a complete hydrogen ecosystem for BEV charging solutions that would support zero-emissions commercial vehicles across the country. He asserted that decarbonizing trucking and port operations will be able to happen more quickly with the support of federal representatives.

I’m grateful that leaders here in Washington have the opportunity to see first-hand the work a great Arizona company, Nikola, is doing to address the challenges of climate change – and see how cutting greenhouse gas emissions can also create great jobs. Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and our work to make clean vehicles more competitive, this great technology will soon be on roadways nationwide,” said Rep. Greg Stanton (AZ-District 9), one of the event speakers.

Nikola’s Tre BEV has a range of up to 350 miles, one of the top ranges for battery electric Class 8 tractors. It qualifies for both the New York and California Voucher Incentive Programs, which provide discounts to fleets that purchase or lease medium- and heavy-duty zero-emissions BEVs. Through this voucher program, buyers of the Nikola Tre BEV would qualify for an incentive valued up to $150,000 in California and up to $185,000 per truck in New York, with a scrappage requirement.
