HYDRA Concept Is Straight Out Of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Meet the Hydra: Could this hydrogen-powered machine be the future of motorcycling

The HYDRA is a hydrogen-powered electric motorcycle concept that looks like it was pulled right out of the new Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime.

Anton Guzhov, Anton Brousseau, and André Taylforth used open-source VR software Blender to create a rad video that totally looks like a promotional spot for a real moto, from assembly to riding through a dark, gritty, futuristic setting.

Though the three designers have designed other concept rides, this one stands out because the HYDRA would be powered by hydrogen fuel cells instead of lithium-ion batteries. The fuel cells would be stored in the front, under a boxy shell, and lowered in via a robotic arm. The safety and intelligence of putting a high-pressure hydrogen cylinder between your legs aside, everything about the HYDRA concept screams cyberpunk, a rather dystopian aesthetic where technology meets criminality and societal decay.

Between considering where the hydrogen fuel cells would go and the overall design aesthetic, the HYDRA harkens back to the Dodge Tomahawk concept, which saw a Viper V10 strapped between two (three?) wheels.

The HYDRA has as much chance of being built as the Tomahawk had (zero), but we’d be excited to see if this concept could inspire future design and power ideas for the electric motorcycle segment.
