  • The company has gained first-time EV driver and vehicle data supporting the goal of doubling its electric vehicle fleet in 2024.
  • They have pledged to allocate a quarter of its electric fleet to less privileged communities.

Zipcar, a leader in car sharing, has an ambitious EV initiative to integrate more electric vehicles into its fleet. This venture is rolling out in key cities such as New York City, Chicago, LA, Seattle, and Denver. To make zero-emission driving more accessible and affordable, Zipcar offers members vehicle reservations as an alternative to owning a car.

A Zipcar’s daily movement and life cycle fundamentally differs from a personally owned vehicle, which sits idle 95% of the time. Through its proprietary tools, the fleet is monitored to optimize charging while meeting turn-around for member demand. First-time driver and vehicle insights have encouraged the company to increase its EV fleet to double its current size in 2024. This data-driven approach enables Zipcar to cater to customer needs efficiently while maintaining its commitment to sustainable transportation by reaching the goals of its EV initiative.

Zipcar continues to serve those who derive the most advantage from the monetary savings brought about by car-sharing. In line with this, the company has pledged to allocate a quarter of its electric fleet to less privileged communities that require affordable, convenient transportation for professional engagements, personal appointments, running errands, or visiting friends and family.

By making this commitment, Zipcar is aligning itself with the White House EV Acceleration Challenge, an unprecedented initiative aiming to transition to equitable and sustainable transportation. Ensuring equal access to transportation and championing environmental sustainability are significant benefits of the car-free and car-lite lifestyle that Zipcar facilitates.

As a part of its EV initiative, the ultimate Zipcar EV Guide has been created. This comprehensive guide includes everything members need to know about EVs, from charging to driving and everything in between. Members simply scan the QR Codes located in the vehicles or in their Zipcar reservation confirmation to access this information.
