  • America Solar Glow 1 is one square mile with over 200,000 solar panels.
  • This solar farm produces enough energy to simultaneously charge 500 EVs at 150kW stations.
  • Electrify America powered over 5 million charging sessions in 2022.

It’s here! The Electrify America 75 Megawatt Electrify America Solar Glow 1 started producing energy for customers on August 15.

Annually, this solar project in San Bernardino, California, should produce 225 Gigawatts, helping to reduce the carbon footprint of electric vehicle charging. Bringing this to human size, the solar array should create enough power to charge 500 EVs using a 150 kW charging station. This solar farm measures one square mile and has over 200,000 solar panels.

The project was announced in 2022 thanks to a 15-year virtual power purchase agreement with Terra-Gen. The innovative solar farm creates a new source of renewable energy for the largest public network of DC fast chargers in the United States. President and CEO of Electrify America, Robert Barrosa said, “Electrify America is committed to being a part of the broader charging solution for EV drivers today and in the future.”

In 2022, Electrify America charged a record number of vehicles. The public charging stations had over 5 million sessions, which was 3.5 times more than in 2021. During those 5 million sessions, Electrify America provided enough energy (173 GWh) to provide 493 million miles of EV driving. These sessions kept drivers from having to purchase 21 million gallons of gasoline.

As EV ownership continues to increase, Electrify America expects demand to increase on its charging network. Adding 100% renewable energy sources will generate more power than was needed in 2022.
