The incredible, Formula 1-inspired, 1050 HP Mercedes-AMG ONE takes on the old Hockenheimring – and you can watch!
Hybrid hypercars are having a real moment, and the Mercedes-AMG ONE has been at the forefront of that hype. A driver recently took the ONE around the Hockenheimring, making it absolutely blitz through straightaways and nimbly handle the turns.
The ONE is a supremely ambitious road car project, lifting its tech directly from the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 team to create an F1 car for the road. The project was first announced in 2017, but it’s taken years of engineering and development to transform a racing engine into a powertrain that’s suitable for road use — while also staying compliant with emissions regulations.
The combined output of this hybrid hypercar is a blistering 782 kW (the equivalent of 1,049 horsepower). The turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 engine goes to 11,000 rpm and produces 428 kW (574 HP). The MGU-K electric motor attached to the V6 produces 121 kW (163 HP).
In addition to that same AMG-developed engine that powers Lewis Hamilton’s dominant Silver Arrows F1 car, the ONE adds a little something different by having an electric motor mounted at each front wheel, creating a combined output of 243 kW (326 HP).
Other bonuses in the AMG ONE include a collection of active aero features with the rear wing that can be extended or withdrawn, whether you’re looking for higher speeds or better downforce. This includes the special DRS mode, which gives drivers peak performance on straightaways. The rear wing is completely retracted and the louvers are closed to reduce drag and downforce … and it doesn’t hurt that the rear end looks like something that belongs on the Batmobile!
