LBID22: What’s Old is New, Clean, & Fast

What’s old is new, clean, and fast! In this Industry Day panel, we explore the ways electrification is impacting aftermarket tuners, and hot rodders.

Long Beach Industry Day ’22 was absolutely fantastic, and put many of the industry’s leading voices on stage to discuss the issues facing the e-mobility business. In this panel, AEM‘s Kirk Miller and Everatti‘s Amit Chandarana discuss the $50 Billion automotive aftermarket, and how the trend towards electrification will impact that massive market.

SHOW NOTES

  • Peter mentions that the automotive performance industry is worth $50 billion— and that’s not speculation. That was the official number in 2021.
  • Kirk Miller outlines some of his performance “street cred,” and it is absolutely beyond question in the automotive tuning space. AEM is an industry standard for advanced electronic controls, and his company, AEM EV, promises to make converting— and racing!— EVs more accessible for all.
  • Kirk also talks about the EPA and their crackdown on speed shops. Jo Borrás covered that over at the Truth About Cars, and you can read about it here.
  • Amit talks a bit about some of the cars that Everatti is converting to EV, including Porsche and Land Rover models— but our favorite is still the 800 HP GT40. Check it out here.
  • Both of these guys talk about the classic Land Rover Range Rover and its popularity as a platform for EV conversions. Here’s a great article highlighting one of those swaps, and drag racing it against a modern LR!
  • Kirk talks about the internal combustion ban in central London— they’re not the only major city to ban combustion engines. Barcelona, Gothenburg, Beijing, and others are taking that step as well.

There’s a ton of great stuff here in Peter’s Industry Day panel (above). Take a few minutes and watch it through, then let us know what you think of the future of the electric aftermarket— and what classic car you’d like to see get the EV treatment— in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
