The Chevrolet Corvette turns 70 in 2023, and an all-wheel-drive electrified version of GM’s flagship sportscar is proving that there’s plenty of life in the old girl, yet!
GM’s President Mark Reuss announced a hybrid Corvette with all-wheel drive would launch as early as 2023 (70 years after the original 1953 Corvette made its debut), with a fully electric version to follow soon after.
Exactly when the BEV was expected wasn’t announced, but an EV-only C9 Corvette based on the Ultium platform isn’t outside the realm of possibility. And, why do we say that? As Jo and Chris pointed out in episode 2017 of the Electrify News podcast, the Chevy Silverado EV looks like a conventional, gas-powered Silverado, sure— but the similarity is only skin deep. Instead of a hydroformed steel frame, the Silverado EV rides on GM’s “Ultium” electric car skateboard.
You heard it here first, kids.
