First-ever Aventon Cargo Bike

Aventon Abound shows cargo ability with woman riding with dog

U.S. bikemaker Aventon has launched its first-ever cargo e-bike, called the Abound. Aventon knows that it might not fully replace your big car, but they do want you to feel like the Abound can do a lot of what your SUV could within the city.

First off, the Abound is designed to be approachable for a variety of riders, with its step-through frame, dropper seatpost, and tons of optional, interchangeable accessories from the seat pad that can fit up to two children to the dual pannier bags. You can haul around quite a lot on this bike, with its 440-lb total weight capacity – 130 lbs of which can go right on the rear rack. Basically, whether you’re transporting kids, commuting to work, or going for an outdoorsy excursion, the Abound aims to be the ride to help you do it.

The Abound is a Class 2 e-bike, meaning it has both a throttle and pedal assist that can reach a max speed of 20 mph. The removable 720 Wh lithium-ion battery sits inside the frame for a sleek look, and it can get you up to 50 miles of range on a single charge. You get four levels of pedal assist: Eco, Tour, Sport, and Turbo.

Then there’s the torque sensor, which gives you a more natural feel by responding to and matching your own pedaling effort. This helps give you more control over your riding experience and helps you conserve battery and extend your riding range.

Aventon is also proud that they’re the first U.S.-based e-bike company to receive the TÜV Rheinland North America cTUVus Certificate. The TÜV certification goes to manufacturers whose products pass rigorous safety examinations for electric vehicles, including e-bikes. Aventon says that it strives to regularly exceed TÜV expectations for all of its products, including the Abound.

Onboard technology includes the integrated front and rear lights as well as turn signals, and then the Full Color Display shows metrics like your speed, battery life, distance traveled, and which pedal assist level you’re using. The Full Color Display can also connect to the Aventon app, where you can adjust the display’s brightness, set a timer to automatically power-off, change your speed readings between miles and kilometers, and track your overall mileage, calories burned, average speed, and CO2 emissions reduced by using the bike instead of your car.

The Aventon Abound sells for $2,199 on the Aventon website, with free shipping available if you’re in the 48 contiguous states.
