Australia Backs Wisk Aero Vision

Wisk Aero and an Australian council have partnered to boost electric air travel for the future.

According to a recent paper published by air mobility company Wisk Aero and the South East Queensland Council of Mayors (COMSEQ), advanced air mobility (AAM) will bring many benefits to South East Queensland (SEQ). Their joint Opportunities Paper, titled “Bringing Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) to Australia,” provides an overview of the emerging AAM sector and outlines the economic, social, and environmental benefits of bringing AAM to SEQ.

Wisk and COMSEQ entered into a strategic partnership back in July 2022, and the two organizations have been collaborating on outreach and events to showcase the benefits of AAM. The publication of the Opportunities Paper marks a new stage in the partnership between the two organizations.

The paper also highlights how AAM could become an integrated part of SEQ’s transportation network, as the region looks to address issues of high growth, including concerns like congestion, environmental sustainability, and increasing demand for affordable and accessible flight.

Brisbane Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner, stated that the partnership with Wisk sends a clear message to the rest of the world that Brisbane and SEQ are open for business and remain serious about attracting new and innovative technology, investment, and jobs for 2032 and beyond.

Catherine MacGowan, Asia Pacific Regional Director for Wisk Aero, said that “Queensland has an incredible opportunity to be at the forefront of AAM. The region is experiencing unprecedented growth, and establishing a thriving AAM sector will create important economic opportunities and transportation linkages that will help the region develop in a sustainable way. We are very excited to continue to work with the Council of Mayors and others to bring our all-electric, self-flying air taxi to South East Queensland.”

Wisk and COMSEQ posit that the launch of their Opportunities Paper emphasizes the importance of collaboration between government and industry in advancing AAM.
